About Ryen
My counseling journey began in 2020. As you may imagine, I have strengths in delivering online-based therapy as a result! My professional experience has been in multiple settings, including support group facilitation, inpatient behavioral health units, psychiatric emergency services, and group practices.
I identify as a white trans man. I am passionate about my part in the collective pursuit of social justice and equity in our world. This passion is what led me to being trained in the Africana Worldview Model by my former clinical supervisor, Dr. Andre Pruitt, PhD, LCSW. In counseling, the Africana Worldview Model provides a set of principles that guide my counseling practice and my approach to life. Some of these principles include
Being in together in the present moment
Honoring my clients’ intuition
Supporting my clients’ self-advocacy as an ethical obligation
Accepting nonlinear change
Trusting subjective perspective
Ensuring that you as the client know practical details such as the counseling experience and the purpose, risks, and challenges of the interventions we choose
I am a counselor who believes in constant self-improvement and forever learning in order to be the best therapist I can be to my clients. My recent continuing education efforts have included workshops and symposiums on
Cultural humility
Common challenges of clients who have autism
Somatic methods to treat trauma
